Re MFV Stephil A41 , United Towing Co of Hull hired my fishing boat Fruitful FD10 to tow a barge with divers and large compressor to pump air into the wreck after fitting patches over the windows and hatches,unfortunatly when we were ready to attempt the salvage the Royal Navy told us a submarine was sailing from Barrow and they wereworried the wreck was too near the fairway so wanted it removed at once. While the crane was lifting her the Dutch skipper asked us to trawl him a couple of boxes of fish for the crews dinner,our reward was some bottles of whisky and cartons of dutyfree cigs, the barge dropped the wreck off in Barrow docks where she was scrapped.
