thanks, for email, it's over 39 years since i sailed out of GY. I can remember some lads who I sailed with.
but I do remember a chap from fleetwood who was a 1st MATE called smelly. But I could never understand why they sailed out of GY?

It's like a lad that sailed out of GY as A COOK he always wrote a MENU. THE lads never had time to read it all they wanted some thing that was hot & tasted very good and turn in, The next time that I met him was sailing out of LT HIS name was Scott and came from Fleetwood.
It's like all out siders sailing on the BOATS OUT OF lOWESTOFT were givern a nick name i.e. my my nick name COB STAN i know what a COB is. some were called Fleetys and like some GY fisher men were called Yellow bellies.
all the best

Hi there Warren,
Been having a chat to old Rammy, How did you get on at the UEA.
I heard you did your Masters Degree in Engineering, Last I heard of you, you were Lecturing in Marine & Aero Natical engineering at Sheffield.
I got married and left the sea after we had that mishap when we were diving in the Gulf. At least I can say I have been to Sea

Is that ODD JOB Cob Stan, from HIGH PATH Kissingland Beach Suffolk. Who worked for Colne Trawlers in Lowestoft 1974 on wards.
My dad and me was in the Eagle Pub when he took out pictures from the 70s. And made a comment as to the length of that Mexican Tash you had taken?
My Dad said it was a full Beard. When you came on the boat But on the way back to port in a bad sea down below in the engine room when the motor man had taken off some strapping on this pipe and you burnt part of your beard off on the left side of your face,
My Dad killed his self laughing that much that he dropped his pint.

Then started to tell us about the time the lads had worked on deck in the pounds for 19hours when you came on deck with your oils on and helped to gut shoot the nets as well as haul them in with the other lads.
Jeff my Dad said that you saved the ship from being impouned and the crew arrested. So whilst the boat was tied up they unloaded the fish for a good price and 4 days later you were fishing once again

All the best Jeff & Lez
Also one time the trawler had to go into port some where in Norway when the police were at the dock arresting the ship and crew,
when the skipper ask you to come and explain to those people that the engine could not be repaired at sea to them in their own language
He said what he can't understand why a brain Box like you were doing sailing on Trawlers with all thoses universitys Bsc and what have you
