Boston Seafire Scuttled 19th October

The Boston Seafire has now been scuttled of Whale Island New zealand. She was scuttled to become a dive wreck for tourists and local dive enthusiasts.

You can view some images here of the Boston Seafire being scuttled.

Its a shame to see her go.

Hi There, It was by chance I came upon this report while looking for trawler photos.I worked out of Fleetwood in the early sixtes and did a few trips on the seafire.Unfortunately I only remember it as a rather unpredictable boat which could catch you out, usually when gutting. This is in contrast to the Boston Monarch which was a great sea boat.I had some good trips on the Monarch,it was twelve mile limit then, and with skipper Rawcliffe I think, attached to the radar,we would go in a bit some nights for the big flatties.I also worked for Marr and Wyre,my first trip to Iceland was on the Wyre Majestic, also a good boat.Unfortunately I have never been back to Fleetwood since the sixties and I am now retired in Aberdeen. Thanks for a great site which brings back happy memories of Fleetwoods trawlers, old shipmates and friends. Kind regards from an old deckie.

    Hello Colin,

Thanks for sharing some of your memories of your fishing career. It seems you sailed on some great boats in your time.

Fleetwood as im sure you are aware is very quite now in respect to the fishing boom of the 60s. But the community in Fleetwood still want and always will remember those days. Through stories passed down from family, friends and information shared by people like yourself who worked in this trade.

Thanks for the kind words about the site.

    Alan Duggan
