\ SAILED ON WYRE MAJESTIC 1961
I can recall this I think,? as I am sure my dad was the skipper at the time.
The skipper of the vessel on the 18th October 1974 was Derek George Reader.
However she did go aground on 30th December 1959 as well and the skipper on that day was William Clark.
I must be mistaken sorry.
It was a practically identical incident, but sorces are saying that it was my dad Albert Watson on the Wyre Victory on the 14th January 1976,when it ran aground as he was below and the Bosun in charge.
is it possible you could confirm him as the skipper please.
Hello again Pat, unfortunately the book that gives me a lot of information ends in the year of 1975, also the lists i have are of crew lost and as no one was lost on the Wyre Victory so i have no names available at this time.
I am however waiting on a book arriving that may give me the name of the skipper. I will let you know what i find when the book arrives.
Thanks
Alan
Hello Pat, i have looked in the book that i mentioned was due to arrive but no name of the skipper for the Wyre Victory at the time of her accident is given.
Alan
Hi Alan,
At last I have the report of the court from my sister, and it states that my dad was the skipper of the Wyre Victory 14th January 1976.
He was below at the time of the incident, in his bunk as he was very tired having had to do a double watch due to a member of crew having to much to drink and could not be roused..
I do have the full report of the incident, but I don’t want to put all the details over the web, due to the privacy of other crew members.
Hope this clears up the mystery.
Pat.
Thanks for the update Pat, I am glad you found the information you was looking for. Would it be possible to photocopy the report and send it on to me so i could have a read of it ?
I understand if not.
Thanks
Alan
My Great Granny named this ship.We have a large black and white photo of the event. She is still alive today and can remember doing it.
